大作文重点
1. Many people use written language in a less formal way and in a more relaxed way than in the past. Why is that so? Does this development have more advantages or disadvantages?(与过去相比,许多人使用书面语言的方式不那么正式,也更轻松。为什么会这样呢?这种发展是有利还是不利?)
Recent decades have witnessed the growing use of informal language in various contexts. This can be attributed to an inclination towards verbal communication and the prevalence of the Internet. I am more inclined to the view that the drawbacks, such as lower academic results and reduced formality in enterprises stemming from this tendency, are more significant.
Firstly, there are two main reasons why informal language is increasingly preferred in the contemporary world. The first one is that many individuals today prefer spoken communication. Face-to-face conversations naturally involve more informal language and are more likely to be prioritized today since they are convenient and fast. Another explanation is that the proliferation of the Internet and mobile devices dramatically reduces formal language use. Online texting language often includes emojis, idioms, figures of speech, typos, and abbreviated words. As most businesses transition to online forms of communication, including email and video calls, formal forms of language, as in physical letters, have become relics of the past.
However, the prevalence of informal language engenders two critical negatives. First and foremost, this development can adversely affect students' academic performances. Many students today tend to utilize informal forms, such as abbreviated words or slang, in essays and assignments requiring a greater formality. Consequently, their academic results are often lower on standardized tests, potentially affecting their overall learning progress. The second drawback is a possible lack of formality in business contexts. For instance, if a contract between two companies is written informally, it would not only appear unprofessional, but it might also lead to legal challenges as to the validity of the document.
In conclusion, more people use language less formally these days due to the convenience of oral communication and the advent of the Internet. Nevertheless, I believe this trend has more downsides as it can threaten learning outcomes and business dealings.
2. In some parts of the world it is becoming popular to research the history of one's own family. Why might people want to do this? Is it a positive or negative development?(在世界上的一些地方,研究自己家族的历史正变得越来越流行。为什么人们会想这么做呢?这是一个积极的还是消极的发展?)
Exploring one's family background and history is becoming increasingly popular in numerous countries around the world. In my opinion, through research and knowing more about one's family, people can see common trends passed through generations and useful information which can only be seen as beneficial for people's future.
Firstly, some people look into their family history in order to discover any common trends with family members of a previous generation. This can be especially so with people who have particular skills, gifts or interests in uncommon fields. In other words, as some gifts and skills are hereditary, it can be interesting for people to learn how many others in their family shared these talents from previous generations.
Another reason for the popularity of finding out about one's family history is often due to general curiosity of one's geographical origins. That is to say, some families moved abroad, away from their own country, generations ago which resulted in them losing their original culture and adopting the culture of the country they moved to. Therefore, through research, people can learn more about their country of origin and understand more about the culture that their family originally came from.
Finally, the trend of researching family history is certainly beneficial and can help people find their place in the world. Some people feel a lack of direction in life or are dislocated from others but by learning more about their past family history, it can help them relate to the world and feel more comfortable about who they are. Take, for example, a person who feels nervous about making a certain choice in life, they may feel comforted by knowing that others in their family made the same choice many generations ago.
In conclusion, it can be advantageous for people to learn more about the family's background and origins. It would be useful for children to learn about their own family history, if this was incorporated into the school curriculum.
3. Some people think that physical strength is important for success in sport, while other people think that mental strength is more important. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.(有些人认为体力对体育运动的成功很重要,而另一些人认为心理素质更重要。讨论双方观点并给出你自己的观点。)
Some people opine that the muscular strength of the player determines success in sports; others insist that mental strength is more critical for performing well on the field. In my opinion, physical stamina is more important than mental agility.
On the one hand, mental strength is undoubtedly crucial while playing a game. Players should be able to focus and never lose sight of their goal. Likewise, they must be able to play without losing their heart when the opposition performs better during the match. If they lose heart and become dejected, it will further affect their performance, and that will cause them to lose the game.
On the other hand, muscle strength is even more critical. Physical sport is not a mind game, and as such, there is not much that a player can achieve by simply being mentally strong. Sportspersons who perform on the field require tremendous physical strength and stamina. For example, in football, a player should be able to perform for 90 minutes or more at a stretch. They have to run, jump, attack and defend and all of these activities are performed by the body. Without a strong body, they cannot continue playing. Of course, mental stability will help them stay focused without feeling dejected; however, having focus alone is not sufficient to win the game.
In conclusion, players need both physical and mental powers to win a game; however, in athletic events, physical strength is a lot more critical than mental ability because success in such sports depends entirely on a player's ability to play tirelessly for the entire duration of the game.
4. In many countries, the amount of crime is increasing. What do you think are main causes of crime? How we can deal with those causes?(在许多国家,犯罪的数量正在增加。你认为犯罪的主要原因是什么?对此我们该如何应对?)
The increase in crime rate is a pressing problem and fear worldwide. Many nations are struggling with increased criminal activities. The situation is very alarming as it affects every sphere of everyday life. The reasons for the increase in crime rate are linked to poverty and the vulnerable judicial system.
Crime is getting worse around the globe, especially in poverty-stricken nations. In poorer nations, unemployment is a great curse, and many people are jobless. In this situation, when they are paid for criminal activities, they tend to do them without hesitation. This is because they need money severely for their survival. For example, the poverty pandemic plagues Somalia, and many people try to escape poverty by becoming pirates and attacking people to get money. On top of that, most people in crime-ridden nations have lost faith in their judicial system. The criminals who have committed heinous crimes are set free due to loopholes in the system. As a result, the culprits have no fear of the law and repeatedly participate in criminal activities.
In my opinion, the government of the nations should devise proper programs to alleviate poverty and pass strict laws to reduce the crime rate. To improve the socio-economic conditions in the poverty-ridden nation, crime rates could be decreased significantly. That is to say that introducing programs in favour of development so that the private sector can create considerable job opportunities by building factories and industries is the silver bullet for stopping the crime rate. In addition, the governments also have to reform the judicial system to eliminate pitfalls in the system. When notorious criminals are punished fearfully, it is considered a mirror at which other criminals can look and not dare to commit crimes.
In fine, crimes are soaring in many countries. To reduce the crime rate effectively, the nation's government should develop the socio-economic condition and reform its judicial system. By following this course of action, the crime rate would drop, arguably, I believe.
5. Some people like to try new things, for example, places to visit and types of food. Other people prefer to keep doing things they are familiar with. Discuss both these attitudes and give your own opinion.(有些人喜欢尝试新事物,例如,参观的地方和食物的种类。另一些人则喜欢继续做他们熟悉的事情。讨论这两种态度并给出你自己的观点。)
While some people like trying out new experiences, others would instead stick with the things they already know. Whilst keeping with the things familiar to us is essential to feel comfortable with ourselves; I believe we should be open to new experiences to discover things that may suit us.
On the one hand, maintaining a routine and staying in our comfort zone is necessary to feel safe. Habits are essential if we want to keep order in our life since, in this way, we are in control of the situations that happen daily. Even small actions can be made to keep this routine, for example, by choosing the same dishes for lunch every day or reading the same book genre at the local library.
On the other hand, trying out new things helps us to discover the inexperienced. By trying and experiencing different activities or items, we can find out what might or might not interest us. For example, I like signing up for new activities every year. Last year I started boxing classes, but I was not good at it. However, this situation helped me discover that I am keen on group sports, such as hockey. If I had not tried boxing, I would have never discovered that my real passion is hockey.
In conclusion, although doing familiar things and staying in our comfort zone is essential to maintain our calm, experiencing new things will help us discover things we did not know we liked. I firmly believe that we should have an open mind to try out new things.
